Wasted time, wasted space, wasted life. Almost everything seems to be =
endowed with the possibility of being turned into rubbish. We take for =
granted the idea that there always has been waste, rubbish, and litter. =
Waste is what is both refused and dumped, repudiated and thrown away. =
The conference intends to explore the mechanisms and rhetoric of =
"wasting" from interdisciplinary perspectives, also trying to think =
about the ways in which waste is "managed", how and where refused things =
and ideas are placed away. The location of this "away" seems to be =
equally worth thinking about as the location of culture "itself". =
Scholars and students from such disciplines as literature, political =
science, economics, cultural and media studies, art and architecture, =
anthropology, history, comparative literature, philosophy, critical =
theory and area studies ... are encouraged to send abstracts (200 words) =
of papers and presentations addressing the theme of the conference to:
