This interdisciplinary conference aims to examine discourses between
England and other countries from 1750-1850 through the lens of the
national and the global. 'Home and Abroad: Transnational England'
invites discussions concerning the formation of English identity or
'Englishness' through its distinction from and dialogue with other
nations. In addition, it asks us to consider the role, influence, and
representation of foreign cultures in England. Further, it offers the
opportunity to understand how distinctions between England and other
nations collapsed, as multinational cultural, ideological, political,
and commercial trends merged, were filtered, and dispersed.
Papers are not limited to literary investigations, but their
relevance for the study of literature between 1750 and 1850 should be
addressed.
