The Marxist Literary Group will be holding its annual Institute on
Culture and Society at Georgetown University, June 8-12. This year's
theme, "The Materialist Suture," is intended to focus discussion on the
ties that bind cultural and theoretical production to their material
conditions of possibility. As always, however, any proposal that
engages seriously with Marxist thought will be considered. Panels
already accepted include "New French Marxism," "The Dialectical Image
Revisited," "Recent Russian Research on the Repressions of the 1930s in
the USSR," "New Feminist Marxisms," "What is the 'Corporate
University,'" "Marxism and Animal Studies," "Progressive Nostalgia:
Seizing hold of the radical 1930s and 40s," "Arrighi and Harvey on the
New Imperialism," and others. This year's reading groups will focus on
the Arrighi/Harvey exchange and on the Krisis Gruppe. Invited guests
will be announced as they are confirmed.

Send paper and panel proposals to Nicholas Brown at cola_at_uic.edu.
Non-participants are welcome to attend.
