Online pedagogies: Making space for social networks

The 2006 Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing Conference will
be held Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, 2006 and will be
hosted by the Department of English at Minnesota State University,
Mankato.

This conference is open to anyone interested in any aspect of
collaboration and teaching writing with computers. Further information

The title of this year's conference is "Online pedagogies: Making space
for social networks."

We are interested in proposals from any discipline that addresses the
conference theme. We especially encourage instructors to collaborate
with their graduate students and advanced undergraduate students to
submit proposals for this conference. This year's theme explores the
histories as well as the emerging and future uses of collaboration in
the teaching of writing with technology; therefore, conference
organizers seek individual and panel proposals from faculty (full-time,
adjunct, and teaching assistant) as well as graduate students that
discuss topics such as the following:

* What are the pedagogical connections between social networks and
writing and collaboration?
* How can we co-opt, adapt, or submit to MySpace and Facebook in the
classroom?
* What is the connection between social networking and collaboration?
* Are social networks more appropriate in online pedagogy than in
face-to-face pedagogy?

Please send a 250-word abstract with panel or paper proposal information
including title of paper(s), and name, address, email, and affiliation
of presenter(s) by October 1, 2006. Panels are scheduled for one hour
with reading time for individual papers/presentations of no more than 15
minutes.
