Portsmouth is the birthplace of Charles Dickens, and the literary
history of the city is strong, with links to Conan Doyle, among
others. The nearby Isle of Wight was the sometime home of Tennyson
and Keats and featured in John Wyndham's 'The Day of the Triffids';
while Hampshire county's literary heritage includes connections with
the lives and writing of such greats as Edward Thomas and Jane
Austen.
