26-28, 2006, Baltimore, MD (Wyndham
Inner Harbor Hotel) –
Popular Culture and Activism

We invite submissions for several sessions on topics surrounding Popular
Culture and
Activism.

Popular Culture and Activism welcomes papers or presentations on the life of
activism in popular culture production. Whether historical or contemporary,
investigations into the role of activism in shaping popular culture or the
role of popular culture in shaping activism are encouraged. Individuals or
groups, working from within any ideological framework, which have utilized
popular media or sought to effect popular media may serve as a guiding
framework. Other issues to consider: how have activist groups been viewed on
college campuses? What kinds of activism are being done on college campuses
or in your local communities, and how does this work (re?)shape popular
culture?

Send a 150-word abstract (including AV needs -- but only vcr-dvd/monitor and
carousel
projector/screens) and a brief cv (as a Word Attachment), via email (include
the title of
your paper/presentation and your academic (if any) affiliation in the body
of the email)
before June 15,
