CFP: Contagion (7/31/06; journal issue)
VERB, an interdisciplinary online journal with a newsprint supplement,
is seeking submissions for its Fall 2006 issue. The topic for this
issue is "contagion," broadly defined, which includes (but is not
limited to):
* Disease, sickness, and death, (or theorizing the same).
* The spread of ideas, practices, or perceptions, (or theorizing the same).
* Politics, parasites, or the rapidly-breeding nuisance insects of New
England.
* The communication of ideas, artistic or otherwise.
* Blogs (because no online journal can refuse to discuss blogs).
* Any other item with even a tenuous denotative or connotative
similarity to any definition of "contagion," current or otherwise.
VERB will consider pieces of nearly any length (between 300 and 5000
words), and prefers upbeat academic articles and creative nonfiction
written in vigorous, athletic prose. VERB also prefers articles of
interest to pedants across disciplines, and has very much enjoyed
publishing articles on:
* The origins of competitive eating.
* eBay as postmodern wunderkammern.
* Dumpster diving.
* The etymologies of "waste" and its synonyms.
* Creative littering.
Submissions may be submitted on our website (at
http://verb.lib.lehigh.edu/index.php/verb/information/authors) or may be
emailed to inverb_at_lehigh.edu. The deadline is July 31, 2006.
