CALL FOR PAPERS:
Rethinking and Rereading Kate Chopin (collection)

(Abstracts, July 15, 2005; contributions, October 20, 2006)

Because of the success of two Chopin panels given at this year?s American=20
Literature Association annual conference, proposals are sought for an=20
edited collection of essays on the works of Kate Chopin. The collection=20
will feature new ways of reading Chopin?s most familiar works and=20
emphasize critical considerations of her lesser-known works. For example,=20
writers may consider texts such as Chopin?s ?other? novel At Fault or=20
short stories such as ?Athenaise,? ?A No-Account Creole,? ?Madame=20
Celestin?s Divorce,? to name a few. Or writers may wish to consider=20
Chopin?s children?s stories, issues of popular culture, religion, New=20
Orleans, race, class, to name a few more, within the contexts of her work. =

The objective of the text is to help broaden the foundation for Chopin=20
scholarship for twenty-first century readers.

Please send abstracts (300-500 words) by July 15, 2006 in a word=20
attachment to Heather.Ostman_at_esc.edu; notification of acceptance will be=20
announced July 24, 2006. Completed essays of 15-20 pages will be due=20
October 20, 2006.

Feel free to email questions.
