Extended deadline for the Midwestern American Society for =
Eighteenth-Century
Studies 36th annual meeting. MWASECS solicits papers and panels from =
all
disciplines dealing with any facet of eighteenth-century literature,
language, history, politics, art, science, and culture. But we =
especially
encourage submissions on the conference's Twin Cities theme, "Duos,
Doppelgangers, and Doubles During the Long Eighteenth Century," broadly
understood. Papers might address, among other topics, the relationship
between the Old and New Worlds; postmodern adaptations of pre-modern =
texts;
rivalries between authors or countries; plagiarism and imitation; =
visual and
verbal mirroring, or any sister arts; gender wars, including male and =
female
spectators, rakes, or coquettes; colonizers and colonized; natural and
supernatural; tradition and innovation; revolution and reaction. =
Plenary
speaker Jack Lynch (Rutgers University) promises to be doubly =
satisfying in
his address, both delightful and instructive.

Hosted by the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, the
conference will be held at the luxurious downtown Minneapolis Hilton =
Hotel,
a three-block walk from St. Thomas's satellite urban campus and easy
distance from an eclectic range of restaurants, theatre, and shopping
(including light-rail to the Mall of America). The planning committee =
hopes
to take attendees further afield for an afternoon at the Minneapolis
Institute of Art and evening at the Guthrie Theatre.

the full range of topics on the long eighteenth century. Please send
