scrutiny2 vol. 12 no. 2 (2007)
Southern Women Write Africa
Along with the appearance of important critical anthologies on women's
writing in Southern Africa, starting with Cherry Clayton's Women and
Writing in South Africa (1989), societies in the region have seen radical
changes in the relative status both of women and of women's writing. This
call for contributions to the vol. 12 no. 2 (2007) issue of
scrutiny2 (UNISA, South Africa) is made in light of the perception that
new literary identities have since emerged in Southern Africa and new
voices have begun to shape the image of a changing mode of existence in
which women play a changing role.
Hence, contributions to this special issue of scrutiny2 are sought that
will reflect the contemporary experience of women throughout the region:
articles, research papers, essays, interviews, creative writing (especially
with the conciseness of poetry) etc , under the general rubric
of "Southern Women Write Africa". It is hoped that contributions will
examine not only "creative" writing by both established writers and new
voices but also the work of women in other areas of the verbal media, where
opinions, attitudes and new thinking may be taking shape and finding
expression.
Brief descriptions of proposed contributions should be sent as soon as
possible to John Stotesbury at <john.stotesbury_at_joensuu.fi> and to the
Acting General Editor of the series, Karen Scherzinger, at
<scherki_at_unisa.ac.za>, in return for which a copy of the required style
sheet will be sent. Completed copy should be sent to both addresses by 15
November 2006 at the latest.
