Call for Papers:
Victorian Landscape Descriptions
38th Convention, Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA)
March 1-4, 2007
Baltimore, Maryland
The Victorian Landscape Descriptions panel invites abstracts of papers which
discuss landscape descriptions of the Victorian period, fictional or actual,
in prose or verse. Papers should address one or more of the period's
cultural issues and concerns: aesthetics / ethics / exploration / psychology
/ religion / science / social and political theory. Particular attention
will be paid to papers that address moments of conflict within a Victorian
landscape: conflicts caused by interaction between humans and landscapes, by
competing versions/visions of a landscape, or by changes taking place within
a landscape (temporally or spatially), etc. Any definition of "landscape"
will be considered.
Abstracts should be approximately one page in length. Send via email to
