Arts_
_genre_ is the annual scholarly journal of the California
State University, Long Beach, Comparative Literature and
Classics Department. It has published 25 issues since the

ANCIENT AND MODERN NARRATIVE:
INTERSECTIONS, INTERACTIONS AND INTERSTICES
Essays should focus on some aspect of the relationships
between classical and modern representation. We are
particularly interested in essays which utilize a
comparative and/or interdisciplinary methodology. The
range of topics is very broad, but could include essays,
for example, that focus on modern literary echoes of
classical texts, the direct adaptation of ancient
literature, postcolonial appropriations of canonical
western texts, mimesis and concepts of imitation, the
exilic imagination, the persistence of genres, cultural
studies and classical realities, or the classical world in
the age of mechanical reproduction.
We welcome graduate student submissions.
Manuscripts should be 2,000-5,000 words, double-spaced.
MLA citations preferred.
