I'm seeking presenters for a panel that I'm organizing for the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies conference in Atlanta.

Theorizing Fashion

This panel sets out explore how writers theorized fashion in the eighteenth century. What kind of meanings did thinkers attribute to fashion? Scholars from a wide array of disciplines are invited to submit papers on the cultural significance of clothing. For instance, panelists might consider how a consideration of fashion became bound up to larger questions of history, aesthetics, or culture in the long eighteenth century. The deadline for submission of (250-500 word) abstracts is September 15, 2006. Electronic submissions (with the abstract included in the body of the e-mail) are preferred. Please send abstracts to:
