CFP: Classical Representation in Popular Culture (11/15/06; SW/TX PCA/ACA, 2/14/07-2/17/07)
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Southwest Texas Popular Culture Association/
American Culture Association will once again be
sponsoring a session on CLASSICAL REPRESENTATIONS IN
POPULAR CULTURE (formerly entitled "Classical Myths in
Recent Literature and Film") at the 28th Annual
meeting to be held February 14-17, 2007 at the Hyatt
Regency Conference Hotel in downtown Albuquerque, New
Mexico.
Papers on any aspect of Greek and Roman antiquity in
contemporary culture are eligible for consideration.
Papers focused on the following themes are
particularly welcome:
1.The HBO television series Rome
2.Modern representations of Greek and Roman women
3.Representations of ancient sexuality in modern film
4.Roman history in contemporary literature and film
5.Greek epic or drama in popular culture
6.Ancient religion in contemporary culture
Other possible topics include (but are not limited
to): film versions of ancient myths; modern
adaptations of Classical material in film, television,
music, or literature; the Classical heroic figure in
modern film or literature; Classical period historical
fiction in modern film or literature; and Greek and
Roman mythology in children's film or literature.
Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes.
Submit abstracts of 500 words or fewer to Kirsten Day
at kirstenday_at_yahoo.com. The deadline for submission
of abstracts is NOVEMBER 15, 2006.
