Call for Papers: The culture of adoption.
Adoption has increased as a way of forming families or
adding to biological families. In this new area I am
looking for papers that explore the culture of
adoption. By this I mean the writing, art,
publication, therapies, websites, and films that have
sprung up in response to the increase of adoption in
the past 30 years. Papers that engage the current
discourse on adoption in some way will be given
preference over strictly personal texts. I am not
interested in poetry or journal entries at this time.

Possible topics might include, but are not limited to:
What is the impact on the family of adoption?
How do we negotiate the family politics of adoption?
Open vs closed adoption
The adoption disconnect from both sides, i.e. how the
child is different, how the parents are puzzled? The
who do I look like question.
International adoption racially, culturally,
politically.
Blended families, adoptive families, adopted children
Searching for the biological family
How much culture can you give them? Cultural impact
and retention in trans-ethnic adoption
Literary adoption, how are adoption and adoptees
treated in literature.
The literature of adoption—books about, especially
children's literature.
