The Jewish Studies Area of the Popular Culture Association is organizing at=20

Since his days as a writer for Sid Caesar=E2=80=99s Your Show of Shows, Mel=20=

recently, on Broadway. His body of work includes the recordings, with Carl=20=

writing and directing such films as The Twelve Chairs, The Producers, Blazin=
Saddles and Young Frankenstein, and writing and composing the music for the=20

Broadway history.

of his work (e.g., his film spoofs of film genres such as science fiction or=
westerns). You may also choose to examine his use of Nazis in many of his=20
films -- even anachronistically -- and centrally in his film adaptation of E=
Lubitsch=E2=80=99s 1941 film To Be or Not To Be and his early film and music=
al play=20
The Producers. =20
Proposals should be approximately 250 words in length and must include your=20
