CFP: Parallax: Bending Boundaries, Blending Theories (grad) (Australia) (10/14/06; 11/22/06-11/23/06)
Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies
2006 POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM
Call for Papers
PARALLAX: BENDING BOUNDARIES, BLENDING THEORIES
Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 November 9.00am-5.00pm
Rooms SG01 and SGO3, Manton Rooms, Ground Floor, Menzies Building
Monash University, Clayton Campus.
The Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies organises an
annual Postgraduate Colloquium, where postgraduate students from the
Centre and the wider Faculty are able to share ideas and expertise. The
Colloquium is an opportunity for postgraduate students and emerging
scholars, conducting research in literary studies, cultural studies or
critical theory, to present aspects of their work to a friendly but
engaged audience. The Colloquium seeks to provide a forum for
stimulating academic exchange in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This year's theme will be Parallax: Bending Boundaries, Blending Theory,
inviting participants to reflect on their own research in the light of
the interdisciplinary character of knowledge in the new millennium. The
inspiration comes from the The Parallax View, the latest book by the
Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek. The feature documentary "ZIZEK!",
which explores the eccentric personality and esoteric work of this "wild
man of theory", will also be screened during the Colloquium. The overall
intention remains the sharing of original ideas and research:
participants are under no obligation to narrow their focus to fit in
with the theme.
Prospective participants are invited to present a paper or make some
other form of presentation on any aspect of their research (25-30
minutes plus discussion). Offers should be emailed to Geoff Berry, Mark
Crees and Julia Vassilieva at Colloquium06_at_arts.monash.edu.au by 14th
October. Please include a Title and an Abstract of 100-150 words.
Presentations incorporating audiovisual media are welcome. Feel free to
submit an individually or jointly authored paper or to organise a panel
discussion. Topics might be research-oriented or related to broader
university matters or current affairs. Please mention any technical
requirements and preferences as to date and time.
