CFP: Courtly Literature Society (Switzerland) (12/31/06; 7/29/07-8/4/07)
The Faculties of the Humanities of the University of Geneva and of the
University of Lausanne are pleased to invite you to the XIIth International
Convention of the International Courtly Literature Society (ICLS) to be held
29 July to 4 August 2007
in the two Lemanic cities (Lausanne 29.07-31.07, Geneva 01.08-04.08)
On the first three days, the proceedings will be held on the beautiful site
of UNIL, located on the shore of Lake Geneva and connected to Lausanne town
centre by underground. The last three days will take place in Geneva, whose
University premises are located in the city centre and overlooked by the Old
Town. The Convention will conclude in Geneva, where the airport is found. An
optional excursion is planned on the fourth day. Transportation between the
two cities will be provided for those participating in this trip.
Preparations for the Convention are well under way. Thus, we invite you to
register forthwith and to send us paper proposals on the theme of:
Courtly Mythologies
You may focus on one of the following lines of thought:
>> a) Exemplary figures
>> b) Gender definitions and courtly mythologies
>> c) Rites and performances of power
>> d) Questions of style and rewriting
To make sure that sessions run smoothly, participants are kindly requested
to confine their remarks to no longer than twenty minutes. Proposals of
thematic sessions organized by individual participants or groups of
participants are warmly welcomed.
ICLS official languages are French, English and German. In line with Swiss
linguistic tradition, addresses in Italian are also welcome.
Deadline for registration and the submittal of a topic (including an
abstract): 31 December 2006.
You may consult the following website (www.unil.ch/icls2007) for tips on
accommodation in Geneva and Lausanne as well as regular updates on the
development of the programme as things fall into place. You are kindly
invited to register online. Please submit a title along with a ca. 250-word
abstract. You will need to specify which national branch of the Society you
belong to. You must be a member of ICLS to make an address at the
Convention. If need be, you may contact the secretary of your national
branch, who will gladly enrol you (see the website).
Registration fees amount to 80 â'¬ (100 â'¬ as of 1 March 2007) and may be paid
electronically as of January 2007. Fees will cover the rent of premises
hosting plenary sessions as well as a collection of selected papers related
to the main theme of the Convention. This publication will be available from
Editions Droz.
