CFP: Latina/o Focus Group (11/1/06; ATHE, 7/26/07-7/29/07)
Call For Papers: Latino/a Focus Group ATHE
The Latino/a Focus Group of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education
invites panel proposals or individual paper proposals for the Association
for Theatre in Higher Education¹s 2007 conference, ²Regenerations: Theatre
and Performance as a Regenerative Force, with New Orleans as the Reference
Point² held July 26-29th in New Orleans, LA. Given the conference¹s venue,
we are particularly interested in papers that engage the intersection of
critical race theory and the historically contingent concept of American
identity or ³Americanness² in theatre and performance. Given the conference
theme, we also welcome panels that engage regeneration as a paradigm within
which to view theatre and performance. We encourage panels and papers that
bring together scholars and artists in dialogue, and alternative and
innovative formats. While we welcome all panels and papers that address the
theme broadly, we encourage submissions that address the following subjects:
New Orleans-based performance
Racialized bodies and performance, particularly comparative studies of
racialized bodies in theatrical production
New methodologies in Latino/a and Latin American Performance, ³regenerating²
theory in Latino/a and Latin American Performance
Redefinitions of Americanness/Americasness
Diaspora and Return
(Im)migration and cultural citizenship
Intersections of space and identity, geography and politics, and the
possibilities for transformation
Panel proposals should be submitted on-line using the ATHE website
(http://www.athe.org <http://www.athe.org/> ) by 1 November 2006. Only
complete panel proposals will be considered. Individual paper proposals,
consisting of a 250-word abstract, should be e-mailed to Patricia Ybarra,
(Patricia_Ybarra_at_Brown.edu) Latino Focus Group Conference Planner at by
October 15, 2006. Please read the instructions below so as to best prepare
your paper or panel proposal.
