Call for Proposals
The City College Center for Worker Education/CUNY
New York, NY
Saturday, March 24, 2007, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, The City College Center for Worker Education is pleased to announce the Women and Work 2007 Conference. We invite proposals for presentations from students, faculty, academic staff, union members and activists, or independent scholars and activists.

Conference themes:
This interdisciplinary conference will focus on the historical, social, political, and cultural factors that impact on the meanings and experiences of women’s work, both locally and globally. We welcome presentations from all disciplines but encourage works that cross disciplinary boundaries, as well as proposals with nonacademic orientations. Specifically, we are looking for presentations that address any of the following themes:
• Women and the labor movement
• The double (or triple) shift for women
• Women’s rights in the global economy
• Women, work, and public policy
• Women’s work and education
• Representations of women’s work in literature, culture, and the media
• Race, class, gender, and work
• Women and workplace reform and development
• Women and leadership
• Women’s employment trends

Presentation formats:
Formal papers are welcome but are not required. In order to broaden the modes of presentation and discussion, we invite proposals for workshops, round tables, poster presentations, films, and creative works. Alternative formats and pedagogical presentations are also welcome.

How to submit proposals for Women and Work 2007:
Proposals for individual presentations must include title, presentation format, brief project description (no more than 250 words), equipment needed, and presenter’s name, address, email address, and institutional or organizational information (if any). A session proposal must include the session title, a brief session description (no more than 100 words), and name and contact information for the session moderator, as well as the information for all presentations included, as detailed above.

The submission deadline is December 1, 2006. Please send proposals and queries to Kathlene McDonald, CCNY Center for Worker Education, 99 Hudson Street, 7th floor, New York, NY 10013 or kmcdonald_at_ccny.cuny.edu.
