Deadline for proposals: 31 October 2006
Deadline for papers : March 2007
Ryan Murphy's imaginative and controversial series,
Nip/Tuck, is one of a number of American television
shows that has taken on critical social and cultural
issues in the last decade. Nip/Tuck in particular has
examined the American dream, the mid-life crises of
the Baby Boom generation, sexuality, and queer
readings in extremely innovative ways. The "deeply
shallow" show has looked into the mirror of American
ideals of beauty, youth, and success and provided an
entertaining, chilling, and queer reading of them.
This volume, to be published by IB Tauris books and
edited by Roz Kaveney and Jennifer Stoy, seeks
critical articles of 3500-5000 words on a topic based
on Nip/Tuck. Ideas include:
+ The relationship between main characters Christian
Troy and Sean MacNamara
+ Plastic surgery's representation on screen
+ Sexualities, queer and otherwise
+ Transgender issues as they appear on Nip/Tuck
+ Masculinities on the show
+ The American dream
+ Baby boomers and the generation's representation on
the show
+ Location: how Miami and Miami's population does or
does not play a role in the series.
Other topics are of course welcome.
Please send your article proposals of 500 words or
less to jmstoy_at_umail.ucsb.edu and
rkaveney_at_googlemail.com . Thank you.
