The Electronic Communication and Culture Area
of the Popular Culture Association is soliciting proposals
for panels and individual papers on the theme of error/noise
in a cybernetic society.
In a culture of information, "noise" marks a rupture
of signification that lays bare the dispersive and dissipative
features of digital networks. In what ways are "error" and
"noise" structured in popular culture as a threat to social
and cultural forms? How might "aberrant" communicative
practices suggest a poetics of noise?
Possible topics include:

--Denial of Service Attacks
--Online Jihadists
--YTMND & Other Web Fads
--The PATRIOT Act
--Flash Mobbing
--Blog Hoaxes
