CALL FOR PROPOSALS, ABSTRACTS, or PANELS
FILM ADAPTATION
2007 NATIONAL POPULAR CULTURE ASSOCIATION/
AMERICAN CULTURE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
BOSTON MARRIOTT COPLEY PLACE
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS
APRIL 4-7, 2007
UPDATED SUBMISSION DEADLINE: November 3, 2006
Film adaptation is a wide-ranging genre that crosses
the borders between music, stage, novels, short stories,
poetry, biography, autobiography, illness narrative,
television, science, politics, history, and more, transforming
those mediums into the world of larger-than-life images
with booming sound and vibrant color allowing an audience
to experience the words and momentum of story, adapted
from any form, in an entirely new, often incredible, way.
Please join us at the April 4-7, 2007, PCA/ACA conference
in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Boston Marriot Copley Place,
in the heart of downtown Boston--a city of profound history,
rich culture, delectable dining, and high-end shopping
(as well as my hometown--go Red Sox!).
Submit your abstract, individual proposal, or panel proposal
of 150-200 words, including individual contact information
and affiliation, to Rebecca Housel, PCA area chair
for Film Adaptation, by November 3, 2006.
I hesitate to suggest topics, because I don't want to limit you;
in fact, I encourage and appreciate innovative, intellectually
lively, and intense creative energy--so if you have a good idea,
go for it! Many FILM ADAPTATION conference participants
from the last few years have been published in a volume
from Cambridge Scholars Press, as well as the Journal of Popular Culture.
Basic topic suggestions (though, again, this is not meant
to limit proposals in any way):
--The Hero in/and Film Adaptation
--Comic Book Film Adaptation

As you may well see, the sky's the limit.
I look forward to reading your submissions--thanks!
