CALL FOR PAPERS: Mystery and Detective Fiction

  2007 Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association
  National Conference

  Scholars and readers are invited to present academic papers
  on any aspect of mystery, detective, and crime fiction, including
  novels, short stories, plays, TV/film scripts and adaptations, poetry,
   relevant popular culture theory and interdisciplinary topics,
  or any combination of the above.
   
  Some special topics for this year might include: New England mystery,
  detective, and crime writers; teaching detective fiction; TV/film adaptations;
  writing mysteries; cross-genre mysteries, and the culture of mystery,
  detective, and crime fiction (book groups, fan magazines, conferences,
  reader habits, chat rooms, etc.). We welcome topics that connect with
  other areas of the PCA/ACA.
   
  You may propose an individual paper (15 minutes presentation time,
  strictly enforced), a panel of up to 4 papers, or a non-paper session
  (such as an interview with a writer or writers, a film showing with
  discussion, or a panel/audience discussion of a topic of general interest).
  DVD players, TV monitors, and cables will be available. You will need
  to provide a laptop.
   
   
  Requirements for Presenting a Paper
   
  To present a paper at this conference, you must do the following
  (see conference website for more details):
   
  --Join either the PCA or ACA organization.
  --Pay the conference registration fee by Feb. 1 (non-refundable after Feb. 15).
  --Book your own hotel room. Boston Marriott Copley Place is the conference hotel.
  --Agree to notify Area Chairs and Leslie Fife if you cannot present your paper.
   
  Deadline: October 17 (Earlier submissions strongly encouraged!)

  Paper or Panel Proposal Format
   
  Submit a paper title, institutional affiliation, 150-250 word abstract, and one or more key descriptive terms (to help us put papers together into panels) + your contact information--work address, telephone numbers, email address. (Only the paper title, your name, institutional affiliation, and email address will appear in the program.)
   
  If you want to propose a panel, indicate a panel title, a panel chair, and submit the above paper information for each panelist.
   
  If you want to suggest a non-paper session (interview, roundtable discussion, etc.), submit a title, panel chair, and a description of what you propose.
   
  We cannot schedule people to fit their ideal date/time slots, but if you have special circumstances, please let us know. Please note that the conference is scheduled for Easter/Passover week.
   
  First Time Presenters: You are eligible for the Earl Award competition. To enter, indicate when you submit your proposal that you are a first time presenter and you would like to be considered for this award that honors the best first-time presentation.
   
  Graduate Students and International Presenters: The PCA/ACA website has information on applying for a limited number of travel grants.
