Please note the extended deadline:
Call for Workshops and Papers
D.I.Y. for Girls
Sponsored by the Girls and Their Allies Caucus
National Women's Studies Association
28th Annual Conference
June 28 – July 1, 2007
Pheasant Run, St. Charles, Illinois
Submissions are invited for workshops and papers on current DIY (Do It
Yourself) crafty practices of adolescent girls. Workshops and papers
could provide an overview of contemporary trends, or focus on one in
particular. This year's annual conference includes the participation
of girls in an embedded conference designed to bring together Girls
Studies scholars and their constituents. It is our hope that we can
provide engaging feminist workshops for the girls and scholars alike.
Workshops and papers may include interrogations and demonstrations of
DIY practices such as blogs, knitting, comics, zines, digital videos,
photography, bands, podcasts, etc.
Submissions should include a 50-word abstract, a 250-300 word
description, and a CV or brief bio. Completed papers should be
approximately eight pages, for a reading time of 15 minutes. Workshops
may be either 20 minutes long or a full hour. Abstracts of accepted
papers and workshops will appear in the NWSA program guide.
The deadline for submissions to the Girls and Their Allies Caucus is
October 16, 2006.
Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision by November 1,
2006. For more information on submission guidelines for the general
conference, please see the NWSA website.
Please submit abstracts, description, and CV to Leisha Jones
