CALL FOR PAPERS

A two-day graduate student symposium

Textual studies seem to be moving beyond "interdisciplinarity" toward
multidisciplinarity. This conference explores the status of the
disciplines and the status of the text in a multidisciplinary milieu.
As the autonomy of the text diminishes, a new and perhaps more
productive conception of the text emerges: as something woven from the
texture of the world, as intertextual and contextual. Performance
studies, visual studies, and critical theory, to name a few, are
invested in challenging the status of the readable and advancing
alternative discourses that resist traditional textual scholarship.
This symposium investigates the connective tissues that traverse texts
and the disciplines, as well as attends to the physical and
metaphysical textures of the text.

We are delighted to welcome Profs. Michael Davidson (University of
California, San Diego) and Traise Yamamoto (University of California,
Riverside) as our keynote speakers.

We invite broad interpretations of this theme as 20-minute papers from
graduate students working on all aspects of the arts and humanities.
