Third Circular and Second Call for Papers

The Tenth Nordic Conference for English Studies will be hosted by the =20=

English Department of the University of Bergen, Norway, in May 2007. =20
Details of the conference will be posted as they become available on =20
the conference web site at http://www.kongress.no/95.
Scholars in all areas of English Studies are invited to submit =20
proposals for papers or posters to be presented at the conference. =20
Papers will be presented at thematically organised parallel sessions =20
and at workshops on specific topics. Each presenter will be allocated =20=

30 minutes, including time for questions and discussion. (We =20
recommend that papers/presentations last 20 minutes, freeing the rest =20=

of the time for discussion.)

The following panel topics have been proposed, and will be included =20
in the programme: =94The Captivity Narrative in British and American =20
Literatures: Beginnings to the Present,=94 =94American Studies and its =20=

=91Outsides=92,=94 =94Postcolonial Studies,=94 =94Contemporary Poetry in =
=20
English,=94 =94English in Europe,=94 =94Global Migrations: History, =
Fiction =20
and Narrative,=94 =94Interartial Connections,=94 =94English Historical =20=

Linguistics," "Children and Young adults=92 literature."

There is room for many more panels and workshops, and the conference =20
will be organised around the actual papers submitted. For those who =20
prefer to give a visual rather than an oral presentation, there is =20
the option of preparing a display in poster form. Posters will be =20
displayed throughout the conference, and a specific time will be =20
allocated for conference participants to speak to poster presenters.

There will also be plenary lectures with invited speakers on issues =20
of general interest within English studies. Here are the speakers in =20

Proposals - including information about your academic position and =20
institution, as well as a title and an abstract of 75-100 words in =20

The organisers welcome proposals for workshop or panel themes from =20
anyone who would like to chair a workshop/panel and is also willing =20
to encourage and invite others to present papers there. If you want =20
to suggest a new workshop or panel title, please contact Lise Opdahl =20
at the following email address: Lise.Opdahl_at_eng.uib.no.

The deadline for firm proposals for papers and poster presentations =20
is December 1st, 2006, but the organisers will be happy to receive =20
preliminary suggestions before that date.

In addition to the academic programme, there will be a social =20
programme at the conference, including opportunities to see something =20=

of Bergen and its beautiful surroundings. Bergen is Norway=92s second-=20=

largest city, with an intimate city centre and a vibrant student =20
life. The city=92s most prestigious cultural event, the annual Bergen =20=

arts festival (Festspillene i Bergen), will be taking place at the =20
time of the conference =96 and tickets for concerts, plays, etc., =20
should be available if participants enquire a few months in advance. =20
