The MELUS (Society for the Study of Multi-Ethnic Literatures of the
United States) WOCC (Women of Color Caucus) invites proposals for a
panel at the MELUS 21st Annual Conference, from March 22-25, 2007,
hosted by California State University, Fresno. This session engages with
the overall conference theme of "Work, Migration, and Globalization:
Contested Journeys in Multi-Ethnic U.S. Literature."

WOCC Panel: "'Laboring under these conditions': Women Writers of Color
on Work, Class and Creativity"-Women of color have long written about
the various conditions under which their characters have labored, with
outcomes ranging from exploitation and alienation to self-realization
and potential. How do considerations of work and/or class enable us to
analyze, understand, or appreciate creativity, whether literary or
other? What connections exist between women's labor, in all senses of
the word, and creativity? Explorations of these and other questions are
welcome.
