CALL FOR PAPERS FOR PANEL entitled "Medieval lives,
media-cities--Medieval visions, modern spaces."

This panel is part of the 42nd Annual Comparative
Literature Conference, 15-16 March 2007--California State
University, Long Beach. This year's conference topic is
"Women, Sexuality, and Early Modern Studies."

"Medieval lives, media-cities--Medieval visions, modern
spaces"

This panel will explore the layered temporality of the
city. We will explore the image of the city as imagined by
global technologies and local aspirations; we will look at
the signs and codes by which the cities live.
In addition, we will look at cinematic mappings of the
metropolis and issues of urban polarization. The panel
will explore the technologies and cultural practices which
make city spaces exist in more than one temporal
location and which make them function as archive of both
the medieval and the modern.
