This call for papers is a proposed panel to be held at (dis)junctions, =
the=20
University of California, Riverside's 14th Annual Humanities Conference, =
April 6-7, 2006. In keeping with this year's theme, "Malapropriation =
Nation," this panel attempts to explore the various and often =
conflicting configurations of British masculinity that appeared during =
the nineteenth century.

Papers from all historical and theoretical perspectives are welcome. =
Suggested topics in masculinity include

Civil humanism
Effeminacy
Consumption, lack, and excess
Gothic masculinity
Muscular Christianity
Alternative and/or 'debilitated' masculinity
The scholarly gentleman
The bachelor
Dandyism
Aestheticism
