CFP: The A,B,Z of Contemporary Theory: Agamben, Badiou, and Zizek
(EGSA LSU 12/15/06; 2/16/07-2/17/07)
This panel invites proposals that examine the status of the current
"big names" in theory and cultural studies.
Agamben, Badiou and Zizek are all provocative thinkers who are
questioning and overturning long held assumptions in theory. As the
current theoretical Gatekeepers, there is still a lot of work to be
done in examining these thinkers: this panel is particularly
interested in, though not limited to, proposals that illuminate the
intersections of these three thinkers, proposals that critically
question the ideas of these thinkers, proposals that highlight the
importance of these thinkers to literary, cultural, and political
studies, and proposals that examine these thinkers and the role they
play in the academic desire for "the next big thing."
Various issues include, but are not limited to: ethics, the
post-secular, the future of psychoanalysis, the politics of the Real,
Homo Sacer, states of exception, the future of Marxism, and the
political role of the intellectual.
