CFP: Transoceanic Dialogues (2/15/07; journal issue)
Call for Papers: Transoceanic Dialogues
The Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association will publish a
special issue of its journal, Pacific Coast Philology, on transoceanic
dialogues. We are soliciting submissions on literary and philological
aspects of this topic. We invite papers in areas such as the following:
the maritime, navigation, and cartography in literature; ancient
mariners; the cabinet of curiosities; cannibals and cannibalism; news,
the New World, and the novel; transatlantic Romanticism; transoceanic
racial, colonial, or postcolonial encounters; transoceanic cultural or
linguistic exchanges; empire and the technologies of the word;
dissemination, preservation, creolization, and destruction of languages
in relation to world travel, trade, and colonization; transoceanic
feminisms; masculinities and maritime life; comparative studies in the
literature of slavery and abolition; diaspora and literary form;
circumnavigation, globalization, and modernity; ethnography as a
literary form.
Guidelines for submission:
The usual length for essays is 4,500 to 8,000 words.
Essays may be submitted as Word documents attached to an email.
Author's name and contact information should appear only in the cover
sheet to insure blind evaluation.
In preparing manuscripts, contributors are asked to follow The MLA Style
Manual.
Submissions should arrive by 15 February 2007.
