CFP: Paper prize for graduate students

What is the future of postcolonial studies?

The Postcolonial Forum at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland
seeks to encourage work in postcolonial studies and would like to announce
an essay competition for graduate students (MA/PhD). Essays should address
the question of the future of postcolonial studies: what is the relevance
of postcolonial studies, how can it be useful, and how should it progress?
Writers may consider the question through the use of specific case studies
from their own research, although they must address the question in a way
that will be meaningful to those outside their discipline.

The prize for the best essay is £200 (approximately US$375 or €295). The
winner will be announced at the Forum's first annual conference on
postcolonialism in September 2007 and the winner will be invited to present
the paper at the conference. The deadline is 1 April 2007. Essays should be
no more than 5000 words in length and should conform to a recognised style
of documentation within the writer's discipline. Essays will be judged
anonymously by the board of the Forum, so authors should ensure that their
name does not appear on their essay; rather, a covering letter or email
should give the author's name, essay title and contact information. Essays
can be emailed to jregan01_at_qub.ac.uk or mailed to: Jennifer Regan, School
of History and Anthropology, Queen's University Belfast, Belfast BT7 1PY,
Northern Ireland.

The Postcolonial Forum is an interdisciplinary group involving scholars of
literature, language, geography, history, anthropology, and political
science. The Forum holds regular seminars and events and seeks to promote
discussion of, and excellence in, postcolonial studies. The Forum invites
applications for affiliate membership. For more information please visit
