Association meetings in Boston [May 24-27, 2007].

Revisiting the South in African-American Literature

>From the beginnings of the African-American literary tradition, writers
have engaged in examinations of black life in the American South.
Issues of familial and communal heritage, conceptions of homeland,
experiences of migration, and relations among various racial and ethnic
groups are among the most prominent and pressing themes in this body of
work. How are contemporary writers continuing and modifying this
examination, particularly in a post-civil rights moment? =20
