"The University and the Community: Exploring the Connection"
Proposals are invited for the 5th Annual CAFE Conference, sponsored by the
Paulo Freire Institute, UCLA. The theme for this year's conference is the
connection between the university and the community, particularly the ways
schools can work with and for the community in efforts to create a more
democratic, equitable and socially-just world.
We are interested in any presentations exploring these themes in a
theoretical or practical way and welcome either individual or panel
proposals. The theme covers collaborative projects, participatory action
research, policy inspired efforts, theoretical work, and any other approach
to analyzing or inspecting the relationship between higher education and the
community. We are particularly interested in how the adaptation of Freire's
philosophic and/or pedagogical work can be useful to these efforts. We
welcome any relevant papers/presentations from scholars, researchers,
teachers, activists or graduate students. We also fully encourage teachers
and community activists to present their activities related to this year's
theme in any appropriate format.
Proposals should include your name, organization/affiliation, title, email,
phone number and address and the names of any other presenters. The proposal
should also include the presentation title and an abstract of no more than
300 words. Please indicate any AV or other requirements and if you are only
available to present Friday or Saturday.
Submissions should be addressed by January 10, 2007 to: rjv_at_ucla.edu
Or the proposal can be sent to . . .
