NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN TEXTUAL CULTURE

Textual Culture is a cross-period, interdisciplinary field of enquiry focus=
ed on the production, circulation, and use of texts conceived in material, =
discursive, and economic terms. It brings together several strands of exist=
ing research interest, principally book history, publishing studies, discou=
rse analysis, and reader/audience study. This one-day symposium, intended a=
s an exploration of the continuing development of these research traditions=
 and the relationship between them, follows the highly successful Textual C=
ulture conference of 2005 and precedes the Autumn 2007 launch of the Master=
 of Research (M.Res) degree in Textual Culture at the University of Stirlin=
g.
Proposals (max. 200 words) are sought for twenty-minute plenary papers, as =
well as for three- to five-minute 'position papers' for a concluding panel =
and roundtable discussion. Proposals from postgraduate students are particu=
larly encouraged.
Twenty travel bursaries (of up to =A3100 each) will be available for suitab=
le final-year undergraduate students and postgraduate students who are carr=
ying out or intending to carry out research in the field of Textual Culture=
. Applicants for these bursaries should submit a brief statement (max. 500 =
words), outlining their specific areas of interest and their reasons for wi=
shing to attend.
