The last 100 years has witnessed both the forced and unforced migrations
of peoples of Africa to the United States and other parts of the world.
The proposed volume seeks to provide visibility and voice to various
aspects of these experiences and initiate an already over-due discussion
of the topic. Possible areas to consider include, but are not limited
to, the following: alienation, finding work, death and dying, grief,
negotiating home and away, encountering and confronting perceptions of
home, perceptions from home, negotiating family life and work, raising a
family, subjectivity and difference, language and linguistic encounters,
second-generation encounters and experiences, cross-cultural encounters,
identity and citizenship, the refugee experience.
