CFP "Recontextualized Images" (grad) (1/5/07;
(dis)junctions, 4/6/07-4/7/07)
This call for papers is a proposed panel to be held at
(dis)junctions, University of California, Riverside's
14th Annual Humanities Conference, to be held April
6-7, 2007. The theme of this year's conference is
"Malappropriation Nation." In keeping with the theme,
this panel will address the appropriation of images
(photographic or otherwise); taking an image or images
from their original context and placing them into
another. The reasons and results for such an act are
numerous. Proposed papers should address the reasons
and/or aesthetic, cultural, and psychological effects
of such recontextualizations. Topics could come from
many disciplines, including literature, theory, visual
arts, cultural studies, film studies, or journalism.
Possible topics:
Journalism/Photojournalism
Mass media/advertising
Film or television studies
Images of war
Ethical or aesthetic issues
Visual arts (especially contemporary)
Popular culture
Imagery within literature
Email abstracts of approximately 250 words to

on or before Jan. 5, 2007. All submissions will be
acknowledged upon
receipt.
