NORMAN MAILER SOCIETY CONFERENCE
OCTOBER 11-13, 2007
The Program Committee seeks proposals for panel presentations during
the Fifth Annual Conference of the Norman Mailer Society, to be held

encouraged. There will be at least five roundtable panels, each
devoted to a single novel: The Naked and the Dead (1948), An American
Dream (1965), Ancient Evenings (1983), Harlot's Ghost (1991), and The
Castle in the Forest (2007). Additional Panels and Roundtables may be
aded to the program.
If you are interested in submitting a roundtable panel (four speakers)
on a Mailer novel other than those listed above, please contact the
Program Committee Chair.
Guidelines for submission: Send a 50-75 word biographical statement
and a 250-300 word abstract of the proposed presentation as MS Word
attachments by April 15 to the Program Committee Chair below. Early
submissions are strongly encouraged.

printed program. Accepted papers for Panel Presentation, when

Roundtable Presentation, when delivered, must be no longer than 10-12
minutes. All papers, like abstracts, should be developed clearly and
efficiently. The titles of all papers will be printed in the
Conference Program.
Kicking off the conference this year will be a panel entitled "Norman
Mailer and the Contemporary Novel." This panel will be an effort to
articulate Norman Mailer's role in the shaping of the contemporary
