From: John J. Han <>

Previously unpublished critical essays are being sought for a new volume in Rodopi Press's Dialogue series on Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood. The "Dialogue" series offers emerging and experienced scholars the opportunity to present alternative (point/counterpoint) readings and approaches to classic texts that have received canonical acceptance in either American or Continental literature.

Emerging scholars will demonstrate the following qualifications: M.A., A.B.D., recent Ph.D., instructor, lecturer, or assistant professor status; publications limited to articles in journals, monographs, or chapter studies; and/or a doctoral degree awarded within the past six years. Experienced scholars will demonstrate the following: teach at the associate professor level or above, have at least seven years' experience since the awarding of the Ph.D., be published in book-length studies, and/or be considered an authority or well-known commentator on the title or author.

Possible topics include but are not limited to:
* The effectiveness of Wise Blood as a Christian novel
* The structure of Wise Blood
* Portrayal of Protestant evangelism/fundamentalism in the novel
* A Christian reading versus a nihilistic/Nietzschean reading
* O'Connor's alleged Jansenism
* Representation of women
* Literary influences on the novel
* Kafka and Wise Blood
