CFP: Transverse: Comparative Literature Journal (grad) (1/25/07; journal issue)
Transverse, a graduate literary journal of the Centre for Comparative
Literature at the University of Toronto, invites submissions of
essays, literary reviews, and creative writing (short stories, poetry,
short plays) for the next issue, to be published in Spring 2007.
Transverse is a paper-based journal with a pdf version available
on-line at www.chass.utoronto.ca/complit/journal.htm
- Literary criticism: essays from 3,000 to 4,000 words. Topic:
Translation: from Imitatio to Literary Influence. We are interested in
contributions dealing with translation as a seminal factor in the
intersection between national literatures. How can we revaluate
translation in light of the present state of comparative literature?
Please submit proposals including a 400-word abstract and your
academic affiliation.
- Literary reviews: we are accepting reviews on recent books (2005,
2006). Since this section complements the previous one, we ask for
titles that are relevant to the topic of translation, ranging from
theoretical studies to new translations or revised editions of
literary works. Please first send the title of the book to be reviewed
and a very short justification for the proposal. If accepted, the
final review would be 500-700 words.
- Creative writing: short stories, poetry, and short plays are
welcome. This section is not monographic and we will consider a range
of contributions in various languages (contact us via email for
language-specific requirements). We ask that you limit your
submissions to either four poems or eight pages of prose. The work
must be unpublished and not be due for publication in 2007.
Deadline for literary criticism/reviews: Jan. 25, 2007
Creative writing submissions are accepted throughout the academic year.
Submissions may be submitted by e-mail to transversejournal_at_gmail.com
The preferred format is an MS Word document, sent as an e-mail attachment.
Hard-copy submissions should be sent in duplicate, clearly typed,
double-spaced, page numbered and with name and address on each piece to:
