CFP: New York College English Association Spring Conference
LITERATURE AND EVOLUTION / LITERATURE AND REVOLUTION
April 13-14, 2007
The State University of New York
New Paltz, New York
__________
Keynote Speaker: Ed Sanders
Poet, musician, creative chronicler of the 1960s and biographer of Allen
Ginsberg
We invite proposals for 15-20 minute papers on all aspects of literature
and literary studies concerned with our conference theme, "Literature
and Evolution / Literature and Revolution." This theme is intended
broadly rather than narrowly: we encourage proposals that explore all
facets of the reading experience, as well as those that consider the
many relationships between literature and allied disciplines.
"Evolution" and "Revolution" should also be understood as broad
designations inviting a range of biographical, aesthetic, social, and
political possibilities. Approaches might include such subjects as
Literature and Political Revolution Darwinism and the Novel
Authorial or Stylistic "Evolution" Canonicity as an
Evolutionary Process
The Poetics of Class Conflict Writing Terrorism
"Progress" as a Literary Trope Narrative and the
Revolutionary Reader
Youth Culture and Social Revolt Teaching Revolutionary
Literature
(En)gendering Revolution The Aesthetics of
Social Change
We will also consider full panels devoted to a single topic, theme, or
question: in your proposal please include a title, identify all
participants, and provide abstracts for all speakers.
<>All conference participants must be or become members of the New York
College English Association (memberships are just $10 per year,
available during pre-registration or at the door). An annual cash prize
of $100 is awarded to the best graduate student paper. Outstanding
graduate student papers will also be considered for publication in The
Shawangunk Review, the SUNY New Paltz English Department's annual
journal featuring articles, book reviews, original poetry, and new fiction.
