"Graduating Gender: Reading the Work of Queer Graduate Students"

Update: the deadline for the collection of essays by/for queer graduate
students has been extended to May 30, 2007. Please email all submissions to
this new email address: jbattis_at_gmail.com

I am looking particularly for essays by LGBTQ-identified graduate students
on various topics in literature, composition, women's studies and cultural
studies. Essays can be textual analysis but should foreground queer/gender
studies in particular, since this collection will represent cutting-edge
work being done by queer graduate students in a variety of
humanities-related fields. All essays should also try to focus on
contributors' personal/critical reflections on gender, sexuality, and their
postition within various departmental structures.

Topics can include:

- queering canonical texts
- reflections on queer pedagogies and teaching strategies
- experiences with on-campus GSA and queer-collective groups
- personal or reflective pieces (still critical in nature)
- readings of avant-garde texts, including graphic novels, artwork, etc.
- analyses of queer pop culture, fantasy, science fiction, gothic/horror,
pornography

Essays should represent work undertaken while still a graduate student.
Please include:

500-1000 word abstract
CV with contact info
Short bio

New extended deadline: May 30, 2007. Response given: June 30, 2007
