CFP: Writing Across the Gender Boundary (3/1/07; SAMLA, 11/9/07-11/11/07)
Writing Across the Gender Boundary: SAMLA Women=92s Studies Panel
Throughout literary history writers have explored the perspectives of=20
genders other than their own. This panel will explore works by both=20
male and female writers who choose to cross the gender boundary in=20
their writing and the effects of such border crossings. Writers might=20=
be viewed as crossing gender boundaries when they construct first=20
person narratives of genders other than their own or when they focus on=20=
the experiences or worldview of another gender through third person=20
perspectives or on the stage. Gender crossings can also be diversely=20
defined as shifting from male to female or female to male, as well as=20
explorations of queer, heterosexual, or trans genders from writers who=20=
might identify otherwise. Papers may address the cultural impetus=20
behind a writer=92s choice to cross the gender boundary within a text =
and=20
the effects, consequences, success, or failure of such attempts. We=20
welcome presentations that analyze literary works from any time period=20=
or literary genre. Proposals on related topics are also welcome.
Please submit a 250-300 word abstract, a brief professional biography,=20=
and relevant contact information by midnight, March 1, 2007.
Submit via email attachment with email subject line =93SAMLA 2007=94 to=20=
