Asian and Asian American Literature Panel-PAMLA 2007
Proposals for individual presentations are invited for the Asian and Asian American Literature panel at the 2007 meeting of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA). The panel topic is open, but I am especially interested in papers that explore relationships between Asian American experiences, writing, identity, and so on and the larger Asian diaspora. These relationships might include, but are not limited to
Asian Americans "returning" to Asian countries for work, marriage, etc.;
Asian Americans' acquisition of Asian cultural literacies/identities;
Experiences of ethnic Asians in Europe, Australia, Africa, and South America as compared to Asian Americans;
Asian Canadians and Asians in the US;
Asian interethnic connections and crises in the US and abroad;
Pan-Asian media (such as AZN-TV in the US)
Papers focusing on literature, theatre, print and broadcast media, history, and any other aspects of Asian and Asian American culture and experience are welcome.
This year's conference will be held at Western Washington University in Bellingham, 2-3 November, 2007. Please send a 500 word abstract and brief CV by email attachment to gosherjo_at_uvsc.edu, or by mail to John C. Goshert, Department of English and Literature, 800 West University Pkwy, Orem, UT 84058. Proposal deadline is 1 March, 2007; inquiries welcome.
