CFP: "Is She for Real? Women and Science Fiction"
This is a call for papers for a proposed Special Session panel which
will examine works on a broad range of topics related to women in
science fiction.
Such issues might be (but are not limited to):
gender and identity
utopia/dystopia
sex and sexuality in SF fiction and/or film
cyberpunk
depiction of women in SF film
Second Wave feminism and New Wave SF
the writings of Octavia Butler, Ursula K. Le Guin, James
Tiptree, Jr. (Alice B. Sheldon), Joanna Russ, Marge Piercy, and others;
critical reception of feminist science fiction.
This year's informal conference theme is "Revisiting Realisms" but
panelists are not required to address it in their papers.
Interested presenters should submit a 200-300 word abstract to Alayne
Peterson, University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac, alayne.peterson_at_uwc.edu
no later than April 16, 2007.
