CFP: The Crux of Islam in Europe: Ethnic and Religious Transformations
in European Contexts
This panel seeks to address both the renewed interest in Christianity in
a seemingly post-Christian Europe and Islam as a perceived threat not
only to Christianity, but also to the process of secularization in
Europe. How do European writers and intellectuals depict these ongoing
religious and ethnic struggles? How are these struggles transforming
Europe? What role does the process of European integration play?=20
Possible paper topics may include but are not limited to:
* British responses to Islam
* Orhan Pamuk and the Turkish context=20
* Turkey and the EU=20
* The integration of Catholic Poland in a Post-Christian Europe=20
* The European Constitution and the question of God=20
* "Moslems in Europe", "Moslems of Europe," or "European Muslims"?
* The renewed interest in religion in Europe=20
