Submissions are sought for a panel titled _Cinema, Globalization, and
Violence_ at the 2008 Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference in
Philadelphia (March 6-9, 2008).

>From the Paris banlieue riots, the London transport bombings, and the
Seattle WTO demonstrations, to the architectural excesses of vertical Hong
Kong, the spatial estrangements of suburban Los Angeles, and the aesthetic
defacements of post-reunification Berlin, violence - in both material and
cultural forms - has been a prominent and endemic feature of urban life in
the global metropolitan era. This panel seeks to address the broader
cultural impact of globalization by examining treatments of urban violence
in contemporary film.

Papers addressing globalization and violence in ways that relate to the
overall conference theme (Architectures of the Moving Image) are
particularly welcome. Please visit the SCMS website for more details about
the 2008 conference theme: http://www.cmstudies.org/

Please send 300 word abstract (with bibliography) and a full academic CV
(as email attachtments) by August 13, 2007, to: Christoph Lindner
