“Fire and Ice: Literary Paradox and the Search for Truthâ€

The Conference on Christianity and Literature (CCL) is an interdisciplinary
society dedicated to exploring the relationships between Christianity and
literature. CCL includes members from a variety of academic institutions
and religious traditions from the United States, Canada, and more than a
dozen other countries.
We invite paper and panel proposals that address the conference theme,
“Fire and Ice: Literary Paradox and the Search for Truth.†We encourage
multidisciplinary approaches that draw from a variety of fields of study,
such as literature, philosophy, history, psychoanalysis, anthropology, art,
film, popular culture, music, and pedagogy.
Topics may include but are not limited to:
--Literary, filmic, or artistic representations of paradox and/or the
search for truth
--Truth seekers
--Truth tellers
--Motifs of fire and ice
--Ideological paradoxes, e.g., Christianity and postmodernism or feminism
--Testimony or survivor testimony
--Trauma narratives (speaking the unspeakable)
--Life writing
--Relationships between Christianity and literature
Paper Proposals due 11/15/07. Please send an abstract (250 words) and a
brief summary (50 words) for 20 minute papers to
cassandra.vanzandt_at_biola.edu. Presenters should be CCL members by the
conference date.
Panel Proposals due 9/15/07: Those wishing to propose panel topics should
contact cassandra.vanzandt_at_biola.edu. Inquiries welcome.
