We welcome papers for a panel on immigration, propaganda and
nineteenth-century literature to be presented at the 29th annual
conference of the Nineteenth Century Studies Association Florida
International University, Miami, Florida April 3-5, 2008.

Debates over immigration remain central to 21st-century political life as
they were to the 19th-century politics and culture of Europe and the
Americas. We welcome papers exploring the intersection of immigration and
propaganda in nineteenth-century literature and culture. We are especially
interested in papers that explore the relationship between immigration
politics and literary form. Suggested topics: anti-immigration movements
and legislation, nativism and nationalism, literary nationalism,
expatriation and immigration, cosmopolitanism and immigration, class and
immigration, gender and immigration, race and immigration, discourses of
contagion, medical discourses of immigration, constructions of whiteness,
exile and diaspora.

Please send 2-page abstract and c.v. by September 22, 2007 to
